Misting Out

misty

Misting out, sloppy, slushy, fine droplets dripping, warmish though, not freezing, remaining soft for now, the resident ice pile is losing its edges, melting snow seeking lower ground or simply packing into cement-like consistency, chickens still without any interest in leaving the barn but thankfully providing eggs, Lancer enjoying hay in the low cloudy gray in spite of it all!

Falling, Flying, Frozen, Flakes!

snowfall

Falling, flying, frozen flakes decorating nose and ear, blanketing backs, burying bucket’s broken ice, another bit of white to cover tracks and freshen piles, packing banks to narrow paths, slicking roads to slippery ways, stay on safe trails today!

Bite of February

face off

Early face-off playing with Rev under deeply clear blue, long shadows joining the game, sneaky winds whipping streaks of chill, buckets mostly frozen overnight, self imprisoned chickens still providing eggs to put in pockets – but be careful not to forget them in there 🙁 while working around the barn – awaiting a treat today, nice bright light accompanies the welcoming birdsong to lessen the bite of a February day.

Blustery & Blowing

mouthful

Fierce winds directionally undecided, blustery and blowing the hay away, deep blue sky with partial clouds, the fresh 2-4″ relocating into desert like drifts, white devils rising and whirling only to disappear into another gust, trees stiffly waving and shedding snow, the day settling into winter’s way.

Light Snow and Hungry Birds

velvet

Light snow joining active and hungry birds in the still morning, one small fluff of feathers has been visiting the greenhouse gleaning seeds from the fall and enjoying a respite from the harsher winter outside, crusty surfaces with little drifts in the blown paths where Lancer luxuriates with his hay, warmer temps coaxing some slight shedding and a velvety coat glows with red tips against white in the graying, faded light.

Accumulating to start the day, Rev unearths a stick from the hay pile as Lancer breakfasts outside, a gentle introduction to the coming storm as cold fine flakes fill a light gray sky, buckets are full, chickens enjoying a full bag of veg scraps, .

Sparkling

light2

Full of sparkling diamonds the fresh inch cleaning and brightening, deep purple and blue where the rays are crossing depressions, horse butt reporting chilly wind direction as NW, sky contrasting indigo with those setting reds remaining dormant at the ends of branches, cold stunning light breaking the morning for the beginning of the new week.

Sweet Morning

sweet

Sweet morning with a cold start, winter prevailing with frozen beauty, blue skies touched with white high clouds, snow below hoof remaining fluffy, paths appearing with tracks of all sizes as normally unseen feet make their way through, no wind to disturb the blue jays cackling and hunger hunting.

A Fresh Bucket

bucket share
All water solid overnight and the ice pile flourishing, sharing a fresh bucket, casting crisp shadows on brilliant white snow, blue shades reflecting from clear skies, a few long hairs shedding in extending light, hinting buds ending branches with a suggestion of new color bringing hope of spring and honoring the passing.
