Winter’s Eventual End

face

Only a skimming of ice on the water buckets from overnight, way more shedding, less cold, more birdsong, slight shrink of the snow cover, sun attacking white to fill flowing gutters with liquid dripping and draining away, clearly blue sky welcoming even the chickens outside, wind kicking up – sweeping winter along towards an eventual end.

Hope of the Lamb Springs Eternal

biting

Still biting and nippy temps gracing the pasture, keeping the thick crust strong, ice buckets freezing, the taste of winter freshly chilling, as March comes in with its Lion – seeming to stay – hope of the Lamb springs eternal.

Beauty Day!

rev under

Beauty day freshened white overnight to glisten in the continuing deep freeze, ice abounds slippery under snowfall, strengthening sun shining through the sparkling clear sky, winds abated and high pressure reigns peacefully over the land.

Mean Cold Continues

adore

Cold hardens the sound of the woodpecker knocking, bounces the cardinals song across the field, amplifies the screech from the gang of bluejays terrorizing the neighborhood, icy crunching hoofsteps out beyond the ice pile to find extra flakes of hay, vivid bluest sky in terribly clear dry air continuing the biting chill, deceiving light without any warmth except to saturate the few colors and deepen reflected shadows.

Stark Beginning

detail

Stark beginning to another cold day, spotty clearing in the sky, no snow falling, no snow melting, some very subtle signs of spring if you look really hard, hay is holding up, Rev still delighted with clumping poopsicles, Jays enjoying shriveled crabapples, Sterling the cat still sleeping away the stubborn Winter days.

Shedding Confirmed!

shedding2

Mild, moist air greeting cardinal song and blue jay squawk, awakening very light snowfall, icy paths frosted and slippery, shedding confirmed and hoofs growing to indicate the coming of a new season, gray day nor cold can dispute the March of time towards the bounty of Spring!

The March Lion

horses mouth

Marvelous cold to welcome the March Lion, sunshine struggling with partly cloudy skies, light winds whisper of Winter and not of Spring, hibernating warm-up waiting to wake-up, earlier rising and later setting sun reminding us of what will follow as we await the Lamb.

This too shall pass…

jump

A warning nip with flattened ears, ripping wind causing eyes to tear, clear song calling from cardinal red, high in treetops from overhead, against the deeply bluing sky, bright bird repeats its lonely cry, shadows long under mornings light, freezing temps with a wintry bite, cold season still is holding fast, though – as with all things – this too shall pass.

The Crust Thickens

heading to the barncu

Bright and blue sunny sky, morning full of flocking chickadees with cheery song, sun warming (just barely) and reddening the shedding winter coat, looking for hay while the crust thickens, Rev running rambunctiously, cold wind still delivering winter with whipping chill.

February’s Lion

run away

A changeable morning without sun, then with, still cold temps chasing paws along icy paths, subtly chilly wind keeping our world hard in the last of February’s Lion, the approach to March a test of New England resilience and attitude, hoofs growing and coat still shedding promises changes coming soon!
