Half Moon Morning

water share

Lovely half moon hung in a bright blue sky, cold morning temps riding in on brisk winds, water frozen in buckets broken out and replaced with fresh, Lancer reluctantly sharing with Rev while Isaboo looks on from the hay pile, Spring hiding away with the absent birds unseen and unheard.

Honkers Returning

dawson

Honkers returning to our gray skies, the cold continuing with stiff little breezes, hardened ground covered in ice and mulishly solid snow, a curious visitor ventures across the frozen tundra to meet and greet velvety muzzles and deliver hay for breakfast as winter seems to still have a hold.

In a Cold Cloud

roll + run

Looking beyond the dismal for signs of spring, slippery turning to sloppy, ice formed around branches beginning to break and fall, the cold cloud obstinate up here on the hill, Lancer languishing with his hay while Isa rolls and Rev runs, persistent frozen fading to forced softening as the Lamb approacheth.

In the Middle

in the middle

Frost overnight – glittering – then melting away in the warming sun, Isaboo settling in and getting to know Lancer and mostly putting up with Rev in the middle sometimes, eating better and fitting into her new circumstance, crunchy paddock full of ice, sky full of bright blue with clouds moving in, Winter’s last day remaining as a stubborn lion.

Winter Remains

faces
Companionable munching in chilled, icy temps, light wind swaying treetops, juncos searching the few brown open spots of ground in little lifting flocks of gray, robins decorate the crab apple and in turn are chased off by greedy screeching blue jays, even Lancer is mostly held up by the crust of hardened snow turning into an airy concrete-like substance as it refuses to melt away.

Winter’s Frigid Fingers

shadows

Winter’s frigid fingers fighting for hold as time pries the single digit temps loose one by one, elongated shadows stretching west towards the waning wind, birds hiding where ever it is they go, Lancer is in for a huge change later today yet is steady in his way to adjust to any weather!

Evidence of Spring

shed

Solid evidence that Spring is on its way, shedding is rampant even though flakes may fall, the slow improving temps continue to melt the softening blanket, a coat of white will thrill Lancer (a surprise!) this weekend – though we may be not be thrilled with tonight’s coat of white. Stay tuned and don’t put away the snowblower yet!

Spring is Stirring

love

Sweetness amidst the manure, ice and snow pack, melting slowly, disappearing a bit everyday, a large firmly packed horse angel shows evidence of shedding stuck in its silhouette, mild air greets today with a higher sun and light cloudiness, savoring suggestions of the stirring Spring and sharing sentimental appreciation and thankfulness.

One Step Forward

advance
Light flakes meandering downward – attempting to cover manure and mud, gray predominates the land and sky interrupted by an occasional flash of blue jay or orange robin breast, feeling spring’s pull shortening banks though the ice pile flourishes, old patterns will change with the flow of the season, one step forward for now.
