Happy Patriots Day! (conveniently celebrated today)

first daffodil

Blissful day as spring is crowned with the first daffodil showing a sunny face to the morning, spotty frost evaporated fast touched with warmth as light replaced dawn, early eggs from roaming chickens, rooster guarding hens attacking human roosters who came for Easter dinner, Rev is limping a bit – wondering if he got mixed up with a hoof or pulled a muscle in frantic romping, heard some cannon fire in my heart on Friday, Happy Patriots Day! (conveniently celebrated today)

Happy Weekend!

lying down

Sun in and out, warm then cool, earlier frost covered ground now lit happily with a glow, buds swelling red, grass turning green, time spent mostly on mowing while not relaxing or rolling off winter coats, Happy Weekend!

Frosty Start

big trot

Early frost – no pumpkins- fending off the potential warmth of April with gray skies, crispy winds, ice topped buckets, hard ground  echoing a louder volume to hoofbeats and birdsong alike, minimum heating in the greenhouse due to lack of sunshine but the woodstove crackles and the large black dog in my lap more than makes up for that!

A White Sunrise

wondering what

A  white sunrise surprise, deeply dark gray clouds rushing off towards the South and revealing blue above, tulip and iris spearing up through icy snow cover that buried the jonquils attempt at joy, a pair of ravens grace us with flights through the field and magical calls unlike any others, sun rising strong to melt away cold yet winds bring it back with a chill, red of cardinal and distinct green in the grass offer cheers of stubborn spring while peepers silently await a reprieve.

At it Again!

at it again

At it again, Rev wanting what Lancer has as Isaboo ignores the game, temps caress the soul this fine morning with gentle sun on softly wafting breezes, crazy frogs clacking, peepers singing in rhythms of ancient ways, a comforting day with news of a victory, still worry seems always to find a hold and life remains bittersweet, to balance its nature.

Gleeful Romp

run around
Heavy dew/frost covered the backlit tree branches with diamonds and prisms as the welcome sun rose and transformed them to mist disappearing in the morning, chickens cleaning gardens, manure still protecting ice underneath on the North side of the barn, a gleeful romp digs divots in drying soil as another beauty day revives the spirit.

Sweetly Spring

laying around

Wonderfully warm temps, the otherwise barren lilac budding with junco blossoms sweetly nestling, sun making some limited appearances and waking forgotten sensations, mostly cloudy, mild with gentle wind, soothing air bringing glorious Spring to our door.

Frosty Start

in barn

Bright and bountiful, beautiful and blue welcome to the sunny morning, egg found in the horses hay, frosty freeze falling overnight, layer of ice to break in the buckets, evidence of hoof prints frozen from yesterday, warm rays reaching for shedding backs and waking the world from its winter slumber.

Misting Snowpiles Rising

nomorerain

Rain has lifted along with misting snow piles returning moisture to gray skies, hints of tints of green suggested in the lawn, old fallen leaves escaping winter’s hold scuttle across the field, with no real grass to eat the horses pretend snuffling muzzles in mud and rehearse munching on imagined tall lush grasses soon to come.
