Farewell Sweet Summer

sun out

The Weather Horse reports the sun coming out to wash away the rain as Summer leaves us this afternoon for Fall and the changing of seasons. Buckets are full, lawn and garden watered, air refreshed overnight, along with the first little egg from the young chickens (!), a clomping drive-by to the crabapple tree then off to the field for lush munching, bugs at bay with cooler temps, occasional clouds in bright blue skies – Welcome Fall, farewell sweet Summer.

sour Breakfast

Apparently both the Weather Horse and Rev like crabapples for breakfast, busy and changeable Saturday morning, nice ride into the cloud earlier, nice walk up the hill – under clearing skies – after 2nd breakfast in the greenhouse, apple core treats for Lancer and Rev (Johnnie doesn’t like apples), peels for the chickens, tomatoes still ripening in a now mostly sunny day, to change later back to clouds and maybe some rain.

Another Stunning Day

jester

The Weather Horse appreciating another beauty day, does it get much better than this? Bright sunlight casting deep shadows, deep blue above and changing color below contrasting with back lit leaves against totally clear sky, rooster crowing and chasing the hens, Sterling showing up after a night out cat hunting, apples ready on the tree, quinces forming on the bush, heavy dew steaming away like smoke.

And They’re Off!

they're off

And they’re off – The Weather Horse and Rev racing down to the field towards a brilliant sunrise under crystal clear skies, still, high pressure air with soothing temps of summer, flocks of little gray birds soaring up and down in a flurry, a day near to perfection stretching ahead.

Savor the Sun!

The Weather Horse enjoying the brisk feel in the air, kicking up his heels in appreciation of the brilliantly clear day, Rev running with glee sharing the excitement, not a cloud in sight, high pressure, moderating to warm temps, light winds pushing reddening leaves aloft, no frost, chirping chippies warning of the prowling cat, goldfinches diving for developing seeds in the asparagus, try to be outside and savor the sun!

Frosty Start

The Weather Horse reports a scrape-able frost on our hill, melting quickly under bright skies, clear cool air warming in comforting sunshine, occasional leaves dropping off in anticipation, next door smoke curls from the chimney top, annuals are safe in the greenhouse along with a late lettuce crop, green tomatoes surviving in the garden with a short reprieve.

Welcome to a New Week

dancing in the rain

The Weather Horse is somewhat wet in light showers, declining the invitation to dance in the rain, preferring to graze peacefully on the slower growing grass, the robin family reunion continues to celebrate in a great flock filled with young spotted birds – alighting in bunches and learning to worm, roosters echoing crows from here then from there confirming continuation of life while the last blooms of late mums take over the show of color.

Sweet Sunday

head on

The Weather Horse mowing efficiently on a charming, sunny Sunday, soaking up the warmth, watching the cat who is watching the birds foraging for food, airplanes cutting their engines and coasting aloft, morning glories truly glorious taking over the greenhouse in dark blues and pinks, hummingbirds scarcer, dragonflies disappearing, brave bees buzzing and busy.

Gray Day…

bow

The Weather Horse bids Rev Adieu til tomorrow under gray skies with coolish temps, chickens tearing overgrown lettuce into bite size pieces, definite orange leaves making multiple appearances, perennials shutting down while annuals still thrive, mums beginning their rose pink show, crickets deafening with the sounds of late Summer.

Sour Apples!

The Weather Horse reports dozens of robust robins worming on the lawn, fluttering in the trees, lifting off in a swirl and landing down again, clouds departing allowing bright sun to shine through, temps still warm, air drying, sour crabapples tempting a brief stop on the way down to the field, water buckets full from earlier rain, stubborn gladiolas with one more show, green tomatoes patiently waiting for more Summer warmth.
