Darkish Day

wet

Misty rain on The Weather Horse, a darkish gray day warm enough to green up the grass a notch, flocks of robins, juncos and a few noisy jays decorating the lawn, otherwise stillness and munching ensues, missing Rev, Johnnie’s walked with the Doc to the top of the hill and back to sleep in front of the stove.

Happy Saturday!

horizon

Slightly under The Weather Horse, with Rev off on the horizon, smoke curls from the firepit and the chimney this mild morning, a large orange cat (I think his name is Morris) scatters the ground feeding birds in a flurry of wings as he saunters past the cedar, overcast seeming to clear showing bits of blue between cottony clouds, gray and brown predominating the grounds, Happy Saturday!

sweet

Snow still secreted in northern niches, Lancer chomping through ice in the rain barrel, hazy bright sky, warming temps offering a brief reprieve, fuzzy coat and a chunky layer of fat insuring warmth for future cold, stubborn oak leaves rustling in gentle breezes, blue jays screeching away from our disturbance, celebrating an anniversary tonight under the waxing moon.

A new offering from The Weather Horse!

hay

Enjoying hay a first priority indicating the distinct lack of lush grass available, snow mostly melted away though ice remaining in the water buckets, juncos flocking – lifting off as if they were one – and swirling to alight again finding sustenance where there seems to be none, Winter peeking over Fall’s shoulder awaiting its time while a bright, warmer day brings milder days to follow.

Cool Water Cooler Gathering

icy bucket

The Weather Horse gathering with Rev at the icy water cooler discussing recent events, shortening days, remaining snow in cold temps, biting wind awakening shivers, clear blue skies under high pressure crispy air, ineffective brilliant sunshine deepening shadows but not warming much.

Snowy Start

yawn

Color is washed from the world under gray skies, light snow leaving a white coating, temps falling and a cold wind biting, a taste of Winter stirring emotions, the Weather Horse waking up without much concern, wandering out for hay, leaving hoof prints behind him wherever he goes.

Happy Veterans Day!

greet

Long clean shadows stretching westward, Rev exploding with glee, Lancer patiently  trying to eat hay as the grazing becomes tedious with fall’s halting, wind whipping leaves into whirlwinds, cold seeping into the ground and creeping into the days, dogs’ time spent sleeping by the fire or under the sunny slider glass, thankful – grateful for peace provided by our veterans to enjoy an extraordinary way of life, thank you for your service.

Hanging out with a Friend

friends

Bright, brisk, brilliant with ice thickening in the buckets, leaves illegally entering the barn, the Weather Horse hanging with Rev in the ever browning field – grass clipped short freeing the wind to clean up the fallen – blue sky fading to clouds, no smoke from the chimney until it gets cleaned later today, a peaceful weekend to get some pre-winter things done.

Harvesting Crabapples

crabapple1

Harvesting Crabapples – sneaking them off lower branches, lone crow off to join his flock, no frost or freezing overnight, gray to start with sun waking fading color, still winds and milder temps, another respite from the impending cold.

Frosty Dawn

dawn

Frosty, fabulous dawn with brisk air, stunning sky evaporating to brightness, The Weather Horse passing on crabapples in favor of remaining clover, chickens purring and still laying in shorter days.
